Water Teacher of the Year

This award is intended to recognize formal and non-formal educators who help young people learn about and appreciate Montana's water resources. Nominations are accepted for outstanding educators who foster a sense of wonder about water and its unique qualities, promote awareness of scientific, political, historical or economic watershed issues, educate students on aquatic life, facilitate an understanding of water quality, or help students understand how to prevent water pollution.

CONGRATULATIONS to the 2005 winner - Bernie Smith of Colstrip High school.

2006 Award: $100 to the educator and $100 to their school or appropriate education program.

To nominate an educator, complete the form below, answer the questions on a separate sheet and submit to Montana Watercourse-MSU, PO Box 170575, Bozeman, MT 59717. All nominations must be received by February 17, 2006. Awards will be presented at the MEEA conference Bozeman March 3-4,2006.

Please include a 1-2 page description of the following:
1) Why does this person deserve to be honored for their water educational efforts?
2) What kind of water education training does this person have (Project WET, Aquatic WILD, River of Words, Hooked on Fishing, GLOBE, a self-taught sense of wonder, a degree, etc.)? How do they incorporate their training into their curriculum?
3) How has this teacher helped or inspired other educators learn about or teach about water resources?
4) Why is this teacher effective in teaching about water (conservation, quality, quantity, use, etc.)? How has this teacher impacted their students’ awareness and knowledge of water issues? How does this person engage their students in learning about our water resources?
5) Please include photos if possible.
