When: May 21-23 - 2008
Where: Fairmont Hot Springs
Description: This training is made possible with support from Trees Water and People and conducted by the Institute for Conservation Leadership. It is geared for mid-level watershed coordinators who ideally have a board and steering committe in place with a draft workplan. The training is open to all intersted coordinators and administrators who work at a local level.

EducatorsWhat: THE 2008 WATER SUMMIT FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS
When: May 5, 6 - 2008
Where: Lubrecht Experimental Forest – Greenough, MT (40 east of Missoula)
Description: Middle School and high school students and teachers are invited to spend two action packed days expanding their water quality monitoring knowledge, and exploring water quality issues that threaten the health of Montana’s waters. A few of our scheduled events include: an advanced macroinvertebrate training, an advanced chemical testing training, a presentation session focused on water oriented student research projects and a field trip to the Milltown Dam. Space is limited, please sign-up early!
Credit / Renewal Units: OPI renewal units will be available for participating teachers.
Cost: $50 / teacher (a $50 travel fee (per vehicle) and $100 towards sub fees will be covered by Montana Watercourse) $25 / students *scholarships are available upon request.

Educators What: Sun River Watershed Tour for Educators (PDF brochure)
When: June 6 and 7, 2008
Where: Tour will begin and end in Simms at the Fireside Inn on both June 6 & 7. Tour will travel from Gibson Dam to Manchester.
Who: Interested K-12 educators

Description: Participate in a field-based watershed tour and spend two days exploring the historical, cultural and scientific aspects of the Sun River and its tributaries. Through a lively mix of field tours, discussions and hands-on activities – participants will explore geography, the science of a watershed, historical settlement and land use.

Educators What: Upper Marias Watershed Tour for Educators (PDF brochure)
When: June 24-26, 2008
Where: From the headwaters to Shelby - based out of the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Ranch near Dupuyer, MT
Who: Interested K-12 educators

Description: Using local insights of the Marias to connect students and teachers to their watershed. Spend three days exploring the historical, cultural, and scientific aspects of the river and its tributaries by foot, by van and by raft. The course will begin at the headwaters of the Marias located at the intersection of Cut Bank Creek and Two Medicine River and end at Williamson Park in Shelby. 
Credit / Renewal Units: 22 OPI renewal units and 1 graduate credit from MSU-Northern will be offered.
Cost: depends on credit and lodging options (range: $80 - $240)

EducatorsWhat: A TWO-PART WATER QUALITY TRAINING FOR EDUCTORS (PDF brochure)

PART 1: LOWER YELLOWSTONE WATERSHED TOUR FOR EDUCATORS
When: July 10 from 8:30 – 6:30 and July 11 from 8:30 – 3:30pm
Where: based out of Terry, MT (Watershed Tour will travel from Miles City to Glendive)
Who: Interested K-12 educators

Description: Spend two days exploring the Yellowstone River and its tributaries. Through a lively mix of field tours, discussions, and hands-on activities, participants will explore their watershed through multiple perspectives.
Credit / Renewal Units: 17 OPI renewal units or 1 credit from MSU-N
Cost: $15 (w/o credit) or $135 with graduate credit


PART 2: VOLUNTEER WATER QUALITY MONITORING TRAINING FOR EDUCATORS
When: July 24 from 8:30am – 4pm and July 25 from 8:30am – 3:00 pmWhere: based out of Terry Public School (in-class session) and O’ Fallon Creek for field session
Who: Interested K-12 educators

Description: This field training covers the basic principles of monitoring the chemical, physical and biological properties of water. Participants will also learn how to start a volunteer monitoring group that fits the needs of their classroom and addresses the water quality issues prevalent in their watershed.
Credit / Renewal Units:
14 OPI renewal units or 1 credit from MSU-N
Cost:
$15 (w/o credit) or $135 with graduate credit  **Note: Teachers are encouraged to take part in both weekends of this two-part water quality training. The cost of participating in both trainings is: $150 (w/ grad. credit) $30 (w/o grad credit).
