toward Conservation District and watershed group members
Summary: Join us for a GIS training near you to
gain hands on experience applying the three new watershed GIS tools
developed by the Natural Resource Information System (NRIS). Learn
how to utilize the abundance of data on the NRIS website and what
other GIS resources are available.

- This is the first year in a project for teachers to help students
monitor the Clark Fork River. This year teachers from Plains, Thompson
Falls, Noxon and Clark Fork, ID will participate in this training
to learn methods for water and riparian monitoring. This project is
co-sponsored by the Green Mountain Conservation District, Montana
Natural History Center, Watershed Education Network and the Montana
Watercourse. |
Prickly Pear Creek Know Your Watershed Workshop

Summary:This is an excellent opportunity for the
whole family to learn about the functions, impacts, and management
of your watershed. In the adult workshop, learn about the history
of Prickly Pear Creek, the health of the fisheries, and other watershed
topics while also exploring options for protecting and managing the
watershed. Activities for children include the Rolling Rivers trailer,
aquatic insect identification and a migratory bird game. More

Milk River Watershed Tour: Part I - Havre Area

Summary:The Milk River is truly the "Lifeline of
the Hi-Line." As educators, you are an important force in communicating
the importance of the Milk to its future stewards, the children. This
two day workshop will offer a first-hand look at some sites and issues
on the Milk River and offer teaching strategies, ideas and activities
to bring the Milk River to your classroom. Practice using activities

Valley Ranchland Group - Water Quality Monitoring

health of the fisheries, condition of the riparian habitat, and more.

Summary:On or around September 24,2004 over 1200
Montana students will participate in festivals to learn more about
how water, groundwater, water conservation and wetlands play a part
in their lives. This year's fifth annual Make-A-Splash festival is
celebrated around the US in over 125 locations involving approximately
50,000 students.

Yellowstone
River Watch meeting and Advanced Macroinvertebrate training

Location:Billings West High School, John Miller's
classroom
Time:9:00 am to 5:00 pm
Summary:We will hold a meeting and curriculum sharing
workshop with all teachers currently monitoring water quality in the
Yellowstone watershed. A special session on aquatic macroinvertebrate
ID and behavior by
Brett Marshall of EcoAnalysts will comprise most of the day. Teachers
may receive OPI renewal units, travel reimbursement and 1/2 day substitute
reimbursement by signing up.
Participants:Any teacher in the Yellowstone watershed
interested in sharing ideas with other teachers.
Credit: OPI renewal units will be available for participating teachers.

appropriate GIS tools useful to Disaster and Emergency Systems personnel.
Learn how to utilize data developed by the Natural Resource Information
System (NRIS), and available on the NRIS website, as well as other
GIS resources. These trainings are offered free for Montana DES personnel.
Enrollment:Limited to 15 at each site. Attendance
is open to Montana DES Administrators, District Representatives, County
Coordinators, and any other DES personnel interested in accessing
information to aid in emergency response.
